The first season of Tom Hiddleston's Loki ended over a year ago, but the God of Mischief certainly left an impression. It didn't take long for Marvel Studios to give Loki season 2 the go-ahead.
Hiddleston confirmed early on in the production that the entire cast would be returning. This appeared to be confirmed after both Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie and Owen Wilson's Mobius were spotted on set. Miss Minutes, a fan favourite, and Kang, played by Jonathon Majors, are also expected to appear.
These aren't the only characters who will appear in Loki's second season, as new cast members and footage were revealed at Marvel's D23 panel.
Attendees were treated to exclusive footage from Loki season 2 during the Marvel Studios panel at D23.
According to Popverse's descriptions of the footage, Loki is seen being ripped through time and saying, "I've seen terrible, awful things."
Hiddleston's character also sees a Kang-decorated wall before saying, "War is on its way." The main characters are dressed in space suits and tuxedos.
Loki Season 2 will feature the character "trying to warn everyone about the coming war with Kang," according to Matt Ramos.
The footage has a "creepy vibe," according to Insider correspondent Kirsten Acuna, and Loki is seen revealing Kang's face behind a wall in the TVA.
Erik Voss of New Rockstars revealed more details about that scene, saying:
"There's also a shot where Loki chisels away a mural of the Time Keepers to reveal a wall of giant golden Kang variant faces."
SlashFilm also revealed a few other tidbits from the trailer, including a philosophical conversation between Loki and Mobius:
Loki: "I don't want you to think I'm the bad guy in all this."
Mobius: "Who says you were?"
Loki, on the other hand, has a snarky response, listing several people who would consider him a villain, including Ms. Minutes, a number of Avengers, and even Mobius himself.
The panel also revealed that Indiana Jones and Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan will join the Loki cast for season 2.
Kang The Conqueror Arrives
Jonathon Majors is making a strong impression in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His character has not only been confirmed to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but he is also set to be one of the main villains in the upcoming Avengers 5, titled The Kang Dynasty.
Kang's villainous arc appears to be the main plot point in Loki season 2. Hiddleston's character attempted to stop Sylvie from killing He Who Remains, who warned the duo that his death would result in the release of his more evil variants.
The ramifications of this seem to be a big part of the new season, with Loki attempting to atone for Sylvie's actions by warning others of the impending threat.
It's unclear how Ke Huy Quan's new character fits into all of this, but after starring in Everything Everywhere All At Once, the actor is well prepared for his new multiversal adventure.
Loki Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in Summer 2023.
